Spring 2010

The Porter Family would like to wish everyone a Happy Spring. We have been busy these first few months of 2010! GOD IS SO GOOD TO US AND WE HAVE LOTS TO BE THANKFUL FOR!!!!!!! We have sung in NC, GA, SC and TN already this year and looking forward to coming "your" way.

We, as a family, just had a wonderful time in WV this past Easter. The Porter gang all loaded up with the 4- wheelers and headed out to Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. First, before getting started about our family, we want to say to all the families that lost friends and loved ones in the latest mining accident, that we have and will continue to Pray for you!!!! I, Betty, am a coal miners daughter and hold a special place in my heart for these folks.

On Friday before Easter, Maddie had her 6th birthday party near Charleston, WV. She enjoyed having all her cousins there. Will and me finished with training on Friday afternoon at Broyhill Children's Home and headed out to WV to meet with Chad and Shawn and their families. Will, me, Chad, Stacey, Shawn, Amanda, Austin, Cayden, Gage and Maddie along with the two dogs Lillie and Kailee had a wonderful time. My aunt and uncle Janet and Bethel have a cabin (a 2 bedroom house) in Harts, WV they so gladly shared with us. It is out on top of a mountain, with a big porch where we enjoyed watching the sun set, but didn't see the sun come up to many times....ha ha. On Sat. before Easter our cousins Todd and Michelle and their familis came, brought more 4- wheelers and everyone went for a ride. Janet, me and granny Bird filled Easter eggs with money and candy and planned for supper when everyone got back from the ride. They had a blast!! After having a wonderful late lunch.....we had an egg hunt for the kids. Did they ever have fun!!!!!!! Then the kids loved riding the 4-wheelers, again!! Gage would sit on the bikes, waiting for someone to come ride, he did not want to miss out on a trip. He was so funny!!!!!! They rode until it got dark!!!!

Will and me slept in the floor, on an air mattress, with ALL the grandkids. We made lots of momories!! We love our grandbabies!!! Not sure Papaw slept alot, HA HA, but he caught up when we got home. Not to often do we have all 4 of them together and we wanted to make all the memories we could.

The kids all left for home....to NC and TN on Sunday and our fun came to an end, but we all parted with LOTS of wonderful memories. God has Blessed us with an awesome family!!!!! We will post pictures soon.

Will and me stayed in WV for a few days to visit family and friends. WOW.....we had a great time. We saw folks that we had not seen in years. It was wonderful!!!!!!! I also, visited my daddy's grave. I enjoyed that, too! I have great memories of my daddy!!!!!

We got back to NC on Wednesday evening in time to head back to work on Thursday. Continue to check our schedule to find out when we will be in your area......we look forward to seeing, YOU!!!!!!!

Happy New Year!

Another Christmas has come and gone, can you believe it? The Porter Family has had a busy, but great Christmas. As you know, Will and I work at The Children's Home and it was really good having Christmas with all the boys in our cottage. After we knew that they had a good Christmas, they then went home to their families for the rest of Christmas break. When the boys had gone home it was time for us to have Christmas with "our family". The week before Christmas, Will's mom and cousin came from WV to spend some time, and while they were here they got caught in all the snow. We ended up having around 18 inches of snow, and enjoyed it for awhile, but was glad when we could get out of the house. On Christmas Eve we all gathered at mom's and had supper and to wait for Santa to come. Chad and his family were not able to be with us this year, due to weather, and Stacey's grandmother being ill. We pray that never happens again, because we missed them greatly, but my sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Tom, and son Josh were with us. After dinner mom gathered us all around to hear the Christmas Story, she never wants this day to pass until the story of Jesus has been told. After the story, the excitment of Santa's arrival begins. Santa has always visited my parents house on Christmas Eve bearing gifts for all the children, and this year was no exception! Maddie, being the only youngster there since Chad's family could not make it, got to open the door for Santa! She was not real sure this is what she wanted to do, HA HA, but she did. He came bearing the gift of a Nintendo DSI, and she was a very happy little girl. After giving gifts to everyone and having pictures made with Santa, he had to be on his way. We then, as a family, shared gifts with each other, and it was a great night. Santa also, brought Granny a laptop, and this is her first computer, although it will be a challenge for her to learn, we have faith in her. Watch out Facebook.....here comes Granny........someday!!!!

After a night of rest, comes Christmas morning for The Porter Family! We all went to Shawn and Amanda's for breakfast, and to see what Santa had left in our stockings. Later that day, my brother Jackie Lee and his family came to Granny's house and we all met again for Christmas Dinner and time of sharing gifts with his family. After all this, we all gathered in the living room in a circle, brought out the guitar and began to sing. We had a great time. This brought back memories for all our family.

When we all get together we never forget the Christmas Eve 1986, because that's the year we had to leave our daddy out on Manns Knob in Harts, WV when we buried him at the Browning Cemetery. When that happened, we never thought we would ever have Christmas again, but knowing how daddy always loved Christmas, we knew this is what he would want for us. So we wish daddy a Merry Christms in Heaven every year.

Due to the weather, Maddie's piano recital was not until the Monday after Christmas. We all headed to Bethel Retreat for the recital. WOW, it was great and Maddie did a wonderful job. Maddie has the greatest paino teacher in the world, which by the way traveled with us some in the early years of our ministry. Thanks Sherri Ingle you're the greatest!!! As the week went on, we begin to get excited about singing at the the New Year's Eve service in Knoxville, TN. God moved in a mighty and the best thing of all was that there was a soul that was added to the Kingdom that night, To God Be The Glory! Another person going to Heaven with us, this is why The Porter Family spends hours on the road doing what we do.

Thank you JESUS for allowing us to have a great 2009, and we are looking forward to seeing what you have planned for us in 2010!!!! Happy New Year to all our family and friends. Pray that The Porter Family stays focus on what God wants for us, and that His Blessings will come our way!!!!!

Thanksgiving 2009

Hello everyone, this is Betty, and we just wanted you’ll to know that we have had a great Thanksgiving! We traveled to West Virginia where Will and Shawn went deer hunting. Shawn got an 8 point buck, which made his trip, and Will really did miss “The Big One” LOL. Amanda, Maddie, and I visited with our families, and cherished every minute of it, because we don’t get to see them often living so far away and that makes those moments very special. On Thanksgiving Day we had Turkey, Dressing, Ham, and all the fixings for a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner, but more important than the dinner, we had such an abundance to be Thankful for because of the Blessings the Lord continues to shower us with everyday. The day after Thanksgiving, or “Black Friday” as it’s called, Amanda and her mother Cindy chose to participate in the shopping, so they got up at 3;30am to head out, and from what she said I think they will be sleeping in next year on “Black Friday” LOL. Will and Shawn also got to go to church with some Will’s family and that brought back so many wonderful memories for him. Since we have gotten home Will has been asked about their deer camp in West Virginia, so let me tell you what Will and Shawn call “roughing it.” Their camp is at Granny’s house, which is Will’s mom. She is their maid, cook, and alarm clock for the week. Now does that sound so bad for a so called hunting camp? Mom’s are good for that though, believe me I know!! Well, now it’s time to get ready for Christmas and that’s our favorite time of the year so I look forward to telling you all about it in a few weeks. Until then Merry Christmas and may God richly Bless You.

God Has A Good Plan

Jeremiah 29:11-13
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

God has great plans for our lives, plans for good, not evil. What kind of plan do you have for your own life? I hope it is peace, goodwill, and love towards all man kind. When we have that abiding within, then we can call on the Lord and rest assured that he will hear and answer us. When we seek the Lord we will surely find him, if we search for him with all our hearts. Does God come first in your plan? If he is not God of all, He will not be your God at all!

Matthew 7:7
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Reap What You Sow

Matthew 7:1-4
1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. for in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

The Scripture teaches us not to judge, criticize and condemn others. The same judgment you use on others will be measured back to you. Many times we are reaping in our own lives what we have previously sown in someone's life Be sure you will reap what you sow!

Matthew 7:7 7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

In this verse the work seek alone is such a powerful word. It means to pursue, to crave and to go after with all your might. When we want something really bad we are willing to pay the price to get it. Let me encourage you in the Lord to really seek Gods face not just his hand. I pray you will be encouraged and blessed of God. Remember Jesus is coming soon!
